Three more Hospitals from public sector received the accreditation: Khoula Hospital, Ibra Hospital and Sohar Hospital.

The assessment by external assessors from the Ministry of Health and WHO was done in the month of April this year and they found all the parameters and adherence satisfactory for the patient safety. Ms. Troina Fortune from Ireland was the principal assessor accompanied by the WHO team including Dr. Safa. Detailed inspection of processes, interviews of patients and staff, document checks, etc. were conducted. The initiatives by Badr Al Samaa like setting up “Patient Fall Assessment Desk” at reception were well perceived and appreciated by the team. Also, One Response Phone Number for the entire Emergency Codes was appreciated by the team of outside assessors stating this will ensure fast response while eliminating communication gaps.

Badr Al Samaa Group of Hospitals and Polyclinics has laid effective patient safety protocols in line with the flagship program of Patient Safety Friendly Hospital Initiative (PSFHI) established by World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of Health, Oman. Regular monitoring and 100 percent adherence to the set parameters is made sure by the internal patient safety team at Badr Al Samaa, led by Dr. Benny Pannakal, Group Medical Director and Senior Consultant Interventional Cardiologist, which is an integral part of Quality Department, comprising of Doctors, Nurses and Paramedics with great support from the management. Omani staff also participated and contributed well in the whole process. Monthly data collections of quality indicators (Key Performance Indicators – KPI’s) with respect to patient safety are done followed by analysis and audit. Any deviation from pre set standards is investigated and corrective measures are taken.

FSFHI comprises of 140 safety standards related to leadership and management, patient and public involvement in patient safety, safe evidence-based clinical practices, safe healthcare environment and life learning measures.
